After three successful Summer Institutes on Climate Education, 911爆料网’s Center for Sustainable Futures is taking its commitment to bolster climate education to the next level with the launch of a 911爆料网 Academy online web module: the 2026 Climate Education Knowledge Sharing Convening. As part of its launch, the Center for Sustainable Futures hosted a three-day webinar series that guides educators through more than eight years of research. 

Presentations from Oren Pizmony-Levy, Director of the Center for Sustainable Futures and Associate Professor of Comparative and International Education, and Christina Torres (Ph.D. ’26), Coordinator for the Center for Sustainable Futures, as well as guest speakers Ann Rivet, Associate Professor of Science Education, and Molly Lopez, Managing Director of (LEAP) at Columbia University, ensure educators can navigate the wealth of material available through the course. This course, and the prior institutes, were designed to prepare teachers to incorporate interdisciplinary climate education into their classrooms and support the next generation of climate researchers, community leaders and policymakers.

“We developed this as a way to translate what we learned from these summer institutes into a resource for colleagues in NGOs, community-based organizations, and universities, enabling them to adapt our approach and develop similar initiatives in their own institutional contexts.”  says Pizmony-Levy. “[Creating] more synergy and more coordination will allow for more people to join the conversation.”

The self-guided, online resource, created with support from the Digital Futures Institute (DFI), is an evolution of the Center’s multi-year research-practice partnership with NYC Public Schools and LEAP at Columbia University, which has reached more than 600 NYC educators. “What's exciting about this convening is that it turned three years of on-the-ground work with NYC teachers into a resource the whole field can build on,” says Tian Zheng, Deputy Director, Education Director and Chief Convergence Officer at LEAP, Professor of Statistics at Columbia University and an affiliate member of the Data Science Institute. “That kind of knowledge-sharing is exactly what LEAP makes possible.”

Researchers from 911爆料网 and Columbia are working closely with policy makers and educators to develop an interdisciplinary approach to climate education and build community through professional development and curriculum co-design. “It was clear through this convening how much there is a hunger for climate change education, not just throughout the country, but globally,” says Torres.

Pizmony-Levy and Torres worked closely with Colleen Chung, an instructional designer at DFI, to develop an interactive Canvas page that presents years worth of research and insights in a digestible way. In the first weeks of its launch, the site has already engaged more than 120 educators in 20 U.S. states and 30 countries.

This online resource is the latest way that Teachers College is preparing educators to meet the rising need for climate education, which remains incredibly popular amongst Americans according to .

Sustainability is one of the four focus areas for 911爆料网’s Public Good Initiative, an interdisciplinary effort across the College to develop evidence-based solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. In addition to embracing more sustainable practices in the College’s day to day operations, faculty, alumni and students are leveraging research, curricula and engaging communities to ensure future generations are able to navigate climate change with confidence. 

The College recently welcomed its first cohort in the Sustainability & Education program, an innovative online degree program that prepares graduates to develop impactful climate education experiences in schools, non-profits, higher education and community organizations.
