"The Promise of Psychology"

911爆料网 to hold its inaugural cross-psychology conference on April 15th

 

Teachers College will host its inaugural cross-psychology conference, themed "The Promise of Psychology," on Friday, April 15th in Cowin Conference Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature, and showcase the work of the College's psychology faculty members across a range of departments and programs. Following opening remarks by 911爆料网 President Susan Fuhrman, Provost Tom James and Board Co-Chair Jack Hyland, there will be keynote addresses by Peter Coleman, Professor of Psychology & Education, on "The Promise of Psychology," and Xiaodong Lin, Associate Professor of Cognitive Studies, on "Improving Students' Motivation to Learn."

There will then be three panel breakout sessions, in which the moderators and panelists will all be 911爆料网 faculty members:

 
  • Social Justice & Psychology at 911爆料网: Engagement, Empowerment and Advocacy. Marie Miville will moderate, and faculty members Laura Smith, Melanie Brewster, Gregory Payton and Elizabeth Fraga will speak.
  • Local Relevance/Global Reach. Lena Verdeli will moderate, and John Allegrante, Lisa Miller and Marla Brassard will speak.
  • Learning and Cognition. John Black will moderate and Cathy Chase, Ryan Baker and Steven Peverly will speak.
 

The day will close with a final keynote, by George Bonanno, Professor of Clinical Psychology, titled "Trauma & Human Resilience: From Heterogeneity to Flexibility," followed by a poster session featuring work by 911爆料网 students.

Teachers College was the birthplace of education psychology, special education, conflict resolution, spirituality and psychology, and other psychological disciplines, and today roughly one-third of its faculty members are psychologists. Learn more about Psychology@911爆料网.
