911爆料网 News

President Fuhrman Pens Privacy OpEd
In a recent guest editorial for Education Update, explored the issues of privacy inherent in new educational technologies, arguing that we must protect students' information in this new age of data mining. While new educational platforms and databases have revolutionized the ways students learn and the capacity of educators to study how students learn, educators, parents and students aren't the only ones who want access to all the data collected through online learning platforms and programs - commercial entities do, as well, and not always with pure intentions or appropriate regard for protecting student identities. According to Fuhrman, "Educators should be leading a wide-ranging conversation about how to protect the privacy of students."

Joy in Life and Learning:  The Ruth L. Gottesman Mathematics and Science Education Scholarship
Rajwant Sandhu has a keen appreciation for the beauty and fragility of life. A biology major as an undergraduate with a nearly perfect GPA, she loved science and was preparing for medical school. The night before taking the MCATs, Sandhu was rushed to the hospital with a heart attack. "It was totally unexpected," she reports. One month later, she suffered a stroke.

Sandhu worked hard to recover her physical abilities and lost knowledge. She underwent a heart transplant, and was  able to complete her senior year. "Now education is my passion because I saw how hard it was to regain what I knew." Sandhu, who is in 911爆料网's MA program for Science Education, is one of the first two holders of the Ruth L.
