Advocacy at Teachers College

“A nation is formed by the willingness of each of us to share in the responsibility for upholding the common good.” - Barbara Jordan, U.S. Congresswoman and Civil Rights Leader

At Teachers College, advocacy and civic engagement are central to advancing the public good. Teachers College creates opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and community partners to engage with the issues shaping education, health, psychology, and the communities we serve. Through workshops, programming, and strategic partnerships across the College, the Government Relations & Community Engagement team connects Teachers College to the broader civic landscape, building relationships with city, state, and federal leaders, advancing policies that strengthen education and opportunity, and identifying resources to support innovative initiatives.

Led by Remy Salas, Director of Government Relations and Community Engagement, the team serves as a strategic bridge between Teachers College and government, communities, and public institutions, elevating the College’s voice, advancing its priorities, and helping translate the expertise and scholarship of the institution into meaningful public impact.
